Hello. Please excuse all of my ignorance here, but I really don't own any Macintosh computers. Recently, through a trade on Agora, I was able to procure a Macintosh SE/30. I've always liked the 'compact' Macs. This one in particular has system 7.5.5 installed, with a NIC and a 9.1 gig HDD, and 16 megs of RAM.
Anyway, so my understanding is that the SE/30 is a 1 bit black and white machine, although the monitor is capable of showing greyscale with the correct expansion cards.
Also, recently I have come across the opportunity to purchase an old webcam type device that is compatible with OS 7.5.5 and 4 megs of RAM.
Additionally, I am taking a black and white photography course this coming semester in college (starts on the 27th). A lot of my photographic equipment is really old, and none of it is digital (IMHO, B&W is still film's domain).
Putting all these thoughts together, I think there might be some photographic potential with this old SE/30 with a camera setup - I think given the price of the equipment it might be kind of neat to have the stuff anyway.
So my questions are twofold:
1) Where can I get a graphics card or chip to enable greyscale on the SE/30's monitor?
2) Which graphics cards are best?
3) What kind of graphics software is compatible with the 68030 CPU and 16 megs of RAM? Anything comparable to or as powerful as Photoshop (version 3.5 or so)?
Your thoughts are appreciated. I just bought KeyCAD for this computer. I'm not a big gamer, but I like to check out these old relics and see what computing back in the 80s was all about. -- View image here: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif -- Thanks!
